What skills will the workforce need?
Biotech positions often require technology-specific training.
Many of the top biotech occupations projected to grow in the next five
to ten years by the California EDD require specific degrees; for example, 43,6000 technicians with
AA degrees are projected to be needed by 2010, an increase of 17 percent over 2000.
Time Structures surveyed biotechnology companies in 2006 to get their
opinion on which technologies were likely to develop in the near future.
These are identified in the "Biotechnologies to Train to" (table link at right).
Additional survey results are available from the EWDP program, California Community Colleges.
